Website Big 3 – Right Here, Right Now!

Last week, I had the opportunity to speak at a Viral Marketing Class presented by North Central State College and The Richland County Development Group.

My class topic was Websites: The BIG 3.

Do you want prospects right here – right now?

The BIG 3

    1. CAPTURE EMAIL ADDY’S.  Surprisingly, still, in 2013 business are not getting visitors email addresses.  Giving away a freebie is the easiest way to people woo people into giving up their email address.  YOU WANT email addresses so you can correspond with prospects.  Send a monthly or quarterly newsletter or let them know about upcoming specials/sales/events.  You can’t totally rely on traditional advertising methods to get the word out – especially to those who have already shown interest by visiting your website.   People welcome a quick message from a “friend” (you) saving them money or keeping them informed.
    2. CONTACT US.  Today, more of our customers are finding us via mobile web browsing.  For example; I was planning a quick trip out of town, but I had a strange noise coming from under my minivan. In the parking lot of my daughter’s school, I Googled, “muffler – mansfield – ohio”, and up came the closest muffler shop, Monro Muffler  just 2 miles away with a click-to-call option.  So I clicked and was instantly connected. Told the guy a had a noise, he said come right away, within 15 minutes my vehicle was up on a rack being inspected.  All ended well and I was on my way out of town.  Because Monro had contact info on their website, I could contact them right here – right now.  Don’t you want people to contact you right now?
    3. CLEAR MESSAGE/ACTION/PURPOSE.  Why are people looking for you? What do they expect to find?  What do you want THEM to do?Examples: Restaurant: See a menu? Non-Profit: Donate? Retail: See your product line? Venue: Pics, reviews, booking. Realtor: Get on your VIP list?  You get the idea.  One choice is better than many.  You don’t want to overwhelm your prospect with too many choices.  Right here – right now, turns into confusion, and forgetuhaboutit!

These are the BIG 3 elements your website MUST have.  Simple as that.  Yes, of course there are other elements that are important, but you’re business is sunk without the BIG 3.
